The basis for the Flexible Use of Airspace (FUA) concept is that airspace should no longer be designated either military or civil but should be considered as one entity and utilised flexibly on a day-to-day basis.
The FUA Concept allows the maximum shared use of airspace through enhanced civil/military co-ordination. The application of the FUA Concept ensures that any airspace segregation is temporary and based on real use for a specified time period.
One of the major objectives of FUA is the more efficient use of airspace by civil and military users, through the implementation of a dedicated coordination unit, called the Airspace Management Cell (AMC).
