Average daily flights in the UAE are expected to exceed 5,000 by 2030, with UAE airports handling 1.62 million aircraft movements yearly. To prepare for and facilitate this remarkable growth, dans completed the initial restructure of Dubai Control Area (CTA) in readiness for the phase 3 UAE TMA Restructuring.

Also, in collaboration with UAE armed forces, an initial airspace design for the integration of military and civil flights operating in the vicinity of Dubai airports, flexible use of military airspace and a new Approach service for military traffic was implemented in May 2015.

To further support the projected increase in aircraft movement, dans in partnership with UAE Armed Forces, Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Sheikh Zayed Centre, Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), and Departments of Civil Aviation in Sharjah, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman, has launched phase three of  the TMA airspace restructuring project to optimise UAE’s Terminal Controlled Area (TMA) for arriving and departing aircraft in the UAE.

Airspace integration of Dubai International, Al Maktoum International and other airports in the UAE:
  • Dubai Control Area (CTA) 2015

    In 2014 dans launched an airspace change initiative (in collaboration with other UAE ANSPs) for the optimisation of dans’ control area of responsibility and the future restructuring of the UAE Terminal Control Area (TMA). This airspace optimization involved the design of a new, safer network of Standard Instrument Departure and Standard Instrument Arrival routes. The initiative will increase throughput of arrival and departure traffic to/from other airports in the northern emirates, reduce aircraft holding, enable efficient flight profiles and reduce overall fuel burn and carbon footprint of arriving and departing traffic.

  • UAE TMA Restructuring Phase 3

    A UAE airspace restructuring study was launched in 2014 in partnership with other UAE ANSPs. Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies have now been completed. These studies will allow dans (and other UAE ANSPs) to identify airspace design solutions for operational deployment during Phase 3. A major benefit will be the ANSPs’ ability to cooperatively manage aviation growth in the medium and long term (2017 to 2030).
